Wayfair Inc. said sales in the US grew at their fastest clip since 2021 as the home furnishings retailer draws more new shoppers with growing number of brick and mortar stores, as well as its higher-end brands.

Domestic revenue growth was largely driven by larger volumes, Chief Financial Officer Kate Gulliver said in an interview, noting that the company found particular success with higher-end brands like its Perigold line, which grew second-quarter sales more than 35%.

The company is seeing strength with higher-income consumers overall, Gulliver said, and more than 40% of Perigold’s customers are new to Wayfair.

Second-quarter revenue from its US operations rose 8.7%, ahead of the 6.1% growth analysts had forecast. US revenue made up 89% of Wayfair’s total quarterly sales, according to a Tuesday statement.

The Boston-based home goods retailer, which makes most of its sales online, has been able to use its marketplace model to sidestep some of the increased costs related to tariffs, materials and fuel that other retailers have had to confront recently, according to Gulliver.

Wayfair doesn’t purchase inventory directly from its suppliers and isn’t the importer of record for the products it sells, which helps it keep costs low.

The company has been branching out from its online roots as it’s tried to turn its business around following a post-pandemic sales and profit slump. It’s been opening massive brick-and-mortar stores in cities like Chicago and Atlanta over the past few years and touting a $29-per-year membership program that offers perks like cash back on purchases and free delivery.

Wayfair shares were down 11% so far this year headed in to Tuesday’s report. That compares with an 11% gain for the Russell 3000 Index over that same period.
