PG&E Corp.(PCG.US)
Edison International(EIX.US)

- PCG、EIX

PG&E Corp. has begun sweeping power shutoffs as dangerously dry and windy conditions spread across California, raising wildfire risks.
More than 63,000 homes and businesses powered by PG&E were without power as of 6 a.m. local time Thursday, according to PowerOutage.com. The utility’s outage map shows dozens of public safety shutoffs across Northern California, from Shasta County through Napa and the San Ramon Valley east of the Bay Area.
With hazardous winds forecast across much of the state through Saturday, the US National Weather Service has issued a 450-mile (724-kilometer) string of red flag warnings stretching to the Southern California coast. The corridor is home to more than 5.9 million people.
PG&E has warned that as many as 88,000 customers may lose power by Saturday through high-risk areas. Edison International’s Southern California utility has flagged potential shutoffs to 257,000 homes and businesses across seven counties. Targeted areas include the foothills north of Pasadena and the seaside communities of Malibu, Ventura and Santa Barbara.
California is entering the most perilous stretch of its year-round fire season, when hot, arid winds roll down from the mountains and out to sea. Known as Santa Anas in Southern California, the winds typically begin to blow in October.
Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds are expected to linger in Southern California through Saturday, the weather service said.
