历史上创始人离婚(Bezos/Amazon、Gates/Microsoft)对股价无实质影响。

Chip Wilson, the billionaire founder of Lululemon Athletica Inc., is divorcing from Shannon “Summer” Wilson, his wife and business partner of more than 20 years, who was one of the apparel company’s earliest employees.

Wilson, 71, is one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, with a fortune valued at $6.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He started Lululemon in 1998, helping to pioneer the so-called “athleisure” clothing category.

The pair has spoken about the separation with friends, according to people familiar with the matter, requesting anonymity to discuss private conversations. A family legal proceeding between the two was filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in April, but its contents are not accessible to the public or press.

Representatives for the Wilson family didn’t respond to requests for comment.

The two married in 2002. Summer Wilson, 52, was Lululemon’s founding lead designer, according to her website. She played a crucial role during the company’s foundational years, Chip Wilson said in his memoir and in social media posts.

There is no prenuptial agreement and the effect on the family’s assets has yet to be determined, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Chip Wilson left Lululemon more than a decade ago, as did Summer. But as the founder and one of its biggest shareholders, he has continued to weigh in on the direction of the Vancouver-based company.

He owns about 8.6% of its shares, a stake worth a little less than $1 billion, according to a recent stock market filing. That’s an aggregate figure totaling the holdings of a handful of entities, as well as a nearly 1% stake owned by Summer Wilson, which is worth roughly $100 million.

After waging a public proxy battle for governance changes, Chip Wilson recently signed a truce with Lululemon in exchange for board nominees. As part of that, he agreed to avoid disparaging the company for about 18 months.

Lululemon shares are hovering near their lowest in eight years as the company struggles with a changing market and increased competition. The stock tumbled more than 17% on Friday after the company lowered its full-year sales outlook. Former Nike Inc. executive Heidi O’Neill is scheduled to take over as chief executive officer on Sept. 8.

Wilson also owns roughly 18% of Amer Sports Inc., a Finnish company which owns apparel brands including Vancouver’s Arc’teryx. That stake is worth almost $3 billion. He also has a sizeable real estate portfolio that includes one of the most valuable homes in British Columbia. He’s investing part of his wealth in finding a treatment for a type of muscular dystrophy afflicting him, and he occasionally wades into regional politics.

In recent years, Chip and Summer Wilson and their family have donated C$134 million ($97 million) to the British Columbia Parks Foundation, which the charity called the largest private donation in Canadian conservation history. The pair are listed as co-founders of the family office, which is called House of Wilson. In 2024, the city of Vancouver declared October 3 “Summer and Chip Wilson Day” in their honor.
