Whirlpool Corp. cut its profit outlook for the year to reflect new interest expenses from its recent issuance of $2 billion in secured bonds.
The Benton Harbor, Michigan-based company now sees ongoing earnings per share in the range of $2.50 to $3 this year, down from a prior view of $3 to $3.50. Its second-quarter loss was also wider than analyst estimates.
The reset comes just a few months after the appliance maker slashed its earnings outlook for the year in May, citing a decline in consumer sentiment, pricing pressure and the impacts of the conflict in the Middle East. The company’s margins have become strained as fuel and shipping expenses rise and consumers pull back from big-ticket purchases.
Whirlpool shares fell as much as 5.9% in postmarket trading Monday, on pace to extend a 46% slide so far this year.
