UK homebuilder Persimmon Plc said it expects additional price pressures in 2027, in part due to the Middle East conflict, and added that it may not be able to offset the full impact despite its efforts to boost efficiency.
The company projected completions of between 12,500 homes in the full year, representing the upper end of its guidance and up from 11,905 in 2025, according to a statement on Thursday. Underlying operating profit rose 10% in the first half of 2026, helped by higher volume and “on-going operation discipline,” it said.
“Market conditions remain challenging, with affordability constraints and build cost pressures affecting the sector,” Chief Executive Officer Dean Finch said in the statement. He also warned that the steps taken by the firm may still not be enough to completely insulate it from broader geopolitical pressures.
Housebuilders in the UK have suffered a prolonged downturn, with elevated mortgage rates due to the US-Iran war, increased costs of building supplies and tougher planning regulations weighing on sentiment. Still, Persimmon managed to weather the storm, maintaining its full-year sales guidance in April. We have yet to see “any material impact on trading,” Finch said at the time.
Persimmon’s rivals have been battling the headwinds as well. Taylor Wimpey Plc, known for its dividends, cut its payouts in July to preserve cash reserves. Crest Nicholson Holdings Plc reached an extension deal with lenders to avoid breaching the terms of its loans as sales plunged and slashed margins.
