Gaon Cable, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, will supply about 17 billion won worth of cables for the Seokmun Lake and Saemangeum floating solar power projects. It is the first time Gaon Cable has supplied cables for a floating solar project.
Gaon Cable said Sept. 14 that it will supply integrated-piping ACF (Aluminum Clad Flex) cables for the Seokmun Lake and Saemangeum Sunshine Sharing projects. It is also the first application of ACF cables in a floating solar project.
ACF is a power cable with a protective aluminum cladding on the outside that can be installed without separate piping. Gaon Cable developed large-size, long-distance products to meet the needs of larger floating solar power complexes.
Gaon Cable supplied ACF cables for the Bigeum Island land-based solar project in 2023. With the latest orders, the company is expanding the application of ACF to floating solar projects.
Gaon Cable Chief Executive Officer Jung Hyun said, "We will expand the application of ACF to various power infrastructure sectors, including renewable energy such as floating solar, as well as railways and roads."
