The stocks most heavily net-bought by high-return investors trading through Mirae Asset Securities on the morning of the 22nd were SK hynix (000660.KS), Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS), in that order.
According to Mirae Asset Securities that day, the stock most heavily bought by "stock masters" — the top 1% in investment returns over the past month among the brokerage's stock trading customers — as of 11 a.m. was SK hynix. As of 11 a.m. that day, SK hynix was trading at 1,876,000 won, up 2.51% from the previous session.
The bargain-buying is believed to have flowed in after concerns about a "peak-out" surrounding semiconductor stocks eased following Alphabet's second-quarter earnings release overnight. Alphabet, which reported earnings after the U.S. market close, said second-quarter revenue came in at $119.8 billion, exceeding the market consensus of $117 billion. Its core cloud business revenue ($24.7 billion) also surpassed the consensus estimate of $22.4 billion, while its operating margin reached 35.6%.
Beyond earnings that exceeded expectations, Alphabet's announcement of expanded capital expenditure (CAPEX) is interpreted as having stimulated sentiment toward domestic semiconductor stocks. Behind the sharp declines in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix shares had been forecasts that customers would scale back AI-related CAPEX investment. However, Alphabet said it was raising its annual CAPEX outlook to $195 billion–$205 billion from the previous $180 billion–$190 billion. It also projected that capital investment would increase "significantly" in fiscal 2027.
Samsung Electronics, the top semiconductor stock, took second place in net buying. As of 11 a.m., Samsung Electronics was changing hands at 267,500 won, up 2.69% from the previous session. KB Securities issued a report that day, saying it was maintaining its target price for Samsung Electronics at 600,000 won, unchanged from before. Kim Dong-won, head of KB Securities' research center, said in the report, "As expanded production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM4) using 1c DRAM in 2027 and new mass production of HBM4E in the first half of 2028 are scheduled, structural constraints on general-purpose DRAM production capacity are expected to be unavoidable for a long time, so we maintain our buy opinion and target price of 600,000 won."
Third in net buying was Hyundai Motor. Hyundai Motor was trading at 425,500 won, up 1.79% from the previous session. Since news broke recently that Samsung Electronics is ramping up its robotics business, stocks grouped as robotics plays, including Hyundai Motor, have continued their upward trend. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which said that day it had signed a 295.1 billion won multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) supply contract with a global big-tech firm, ranked fourth in net buying. Samsung Electro-Mechanics shares were trading at 1,410,000 won, up 4.83% from the previous session.
By contrast, Naver topped net selling that day. As of 11 a.m., Naver was changing hands at 213,500 won, up 8.43% from the previous session. Its share price surged after news that it had exported, for the first time, the smart-building operating technology solution of its "1784" headquarters to "Tokyo Midtown Yaesu," a large-scale mixed-use building in Japan. With the gains so pronounced, profit-taking is believed to have poured in as well.
LG Electronics (066570.KS) and Samsung Life Insurance (032830.KS) followed, ranking second and third in net selling, respectively. In addition, Samyang Foods (003230.KS), Alteogen (196170.KS) and LS Electric were among the top net-selling stocks. On the previous session (the 22nd), the top net-buying stocks were Samsung Electronics, Simmtech and Jeju Semiconductor, in that order. The top net-selling stocks were SK hynix and Pharma Research, in that order.
