Nine Doosan Enerbility (034020) employees who had been stranded at a flood-hit site in Nepal returned to South Korea on the afternoon of the 31st.
The nine workers arrived in the country at around 2 p.m., Doosan Enerbility said. They went home after undergoing health checks upon arrival.
The site manager stayed in Nepal to help with search operations. The manager volunteered to remain, saying they knew the conditions on the ground best and wanted to support the search for the other missing employees, according to sources.
The 10 workers, including the site manager, were stranded in the powerhouse of the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower plant in Nepal after major flooding hit the area on the 26th. After waiting for rescue by Nepalese authorities, they were airlifted to a safe area aboard a military helicopter on the 27th.
"The nine employees are physically and psychologically exhausted after experiencing a sudden disaster and severe hardship," a Doosan Enerbility official said. "We judged that above all it was important to respect the employees' wishes, minimize outside contact and allow them to quietly reunite with their families and regain stability."
Six Doosan Enerbility employees and three workers from Korea South-East Power remain out of contact following the flooding. The government's rapid response team, Doosan Enerbility and Korea South-East Power are continuing search operations with the steady deployment of helicopters.
