蔚山论坛小组讨论呼吁建立制造业Physical AI永久试验台以采集工厂数据，仅为观点交流无实质交易催化

Manufacturers struggling to adopt physical artificial intelligence need a permanent testbed to gather factory-floor data, panelists said at a forum in Ulsan.
SK (034730) and the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry co-hosted the 2026 Ulsan Forum on the 11th at the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center, focusing on ways to drive AI transformation, or AX, in the region's manufacturing industry.
The panel discussion on implementing physical AI included Kim Duk-jin, head of the IT Communication Research Institute; Kim Hyung-soo, AX policy officer for Ulsan Metropolitan City; Cho Ik-hwan, executive vice president for physical AI at SK Telecom (017670); Kim Byung-hwa, senior vice president of the automation technology division at Hyundai Motor (005380); Kim Joon-ha, chief executive of Didden Robotics; and Kim Jae-sung, chief business officer at InterX.
Participants identified limited access to on-site data as the biggest bottleneck to AX in manufacturing. "In many cases we are allowed to test products but not to film them, so data collection is impossible," Kim of Didden Robotics said. "Blocking the collection of data, which matters most in AI, is effectively telling us not to develop AI at all."
Kim, the chief business officer at InterX, also stressed the need for a testbed to gather data, saying, "Graphics processing units and robots alike ultimately move for the sake of data."
Digital twins were offered as a solution. "SK Telecom turns equipment and process data into digital twins and runs various simulations inside them," Cho said. "Based on synthetic data, AI trains robots and verifies them before they are deployed on site."
Participants agreed that regional support is needed to build such a testbed. "If Ulsan connects companies that need these technologies with robot, AI and training platforms, the city can make the most of its manufacturing competitiveness," Cho said.
Others called for companies to open up their data. "I ask companies to take an active role, such as grading their data and distributing anything below a certain grade," the AX policy officer Kim said. He added, "If data sharing becomes more active, Ulsan will build industry-by-industry data sets."
Launched in 2022, the Ulsan Forum brings companies and the local community together to discuss sustainable growth and development in Ulsan. This year marked its fifth edition.
