不做 MediaTek(联发科)(2454.TW)
不做 Corning(康宁)(GLW.US)
不做 Amazon(亚马逊)(AMZN.US)

Amazon is moving beyond its traditional low-cost device strategy to challenge rivals in the premium tablet market.
On Oct. 8, Amazon unveiled a new lineup of premium tablets running Google’s Android operating system (OS) and featuring its artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistant, Alexa+. Developed under the codename “Kittyhawk,” the new devices mark a complete departure from Amazon’s proprietary Fire OS. The switch to Android will give users access to a broad range of apps through the Google Play Store.
Fire OS has faced persistent criticism from developers and consumers over its limited app ecosystem.
The Alexa Tablet lineup is priced between $230 and $550, a substantial increase from the roughly $180 price tag of the Fire HD 10, previously Amazon’s top-tier Fire tablet. The highest-end model, with 128GB of storage, costs $550, putting it in direct competition with Apple’s iPad, which starts at $450, and Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Tab lineup, which starts at $550.

Unlike existing Fire tablets, which use plastic construction, the new devices feature aluminum enclosures as part of Amazon’s push upmarket. Reuters has reported that Amazon traditionally sold its devices at or below cost to draw customers into its ecosystem of services, including Prime Video and Kindle. But that strategy also contributed to weaker hardware competitiveness, including display quality and battery life, and fueled consumer dissatisfaction.
The lineup comprises three models: the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, with an 11.95-inch IPS liquid-crystal display (LCD), a resolution of 2,800 by 1,840 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 280 pixels per inch (ppi); the Alexa Tablet 11, with an 11-inch IPS LCD, a resolution of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio and 276 ppi; and the Alexa Tablet 8, with an 8.7-inch IPS LCD, a resolution of 1,340 by 800 pixels, a 5:3 aspect ratio and 180 ppi.
The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro will be available with either a standard LCD or a Nanomatte display. The Nanomatte technology uses precision etching on the glass surface to reduce reflections, according to Amazon, which said it developed the technology in collaboration with Corning. The display supplier has not been disclosed.
The application processors (APs) will be supplied by Taiwan-based MediaTek. The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro will use MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400, a high-performance chip built on a 4-nanometer (nm) process. The midrange and entry-level models, the Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 8, will use the eight-core MT8189 processor designed for tablets.
Alexa+ is a central feature of the new lineup, offering significantly improved capabilities for answering questions and carrying out tasks. Access to these features, however, will be limited to Amazon Prime members and subscribers to a separate Alexa+ plan.
According to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple held 34% of the global tablet market in the second quarter of this year, followed by Samsung Electronics with 17.5%. Amazon’s share fell sharply to 1.9% from 8% a year earlier. Global tablet shipments declined 12% year over year to 33.6 million units, as the overall market contracted.
