不做 Burberry Group(BRBY.GB)
Frasers Group(FRAS.GB)

Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group builds stake in Burberry
Frasers Group, the retail empire controlled by billionaire Mike Ashley, has built a position in fashion house Burberry as it steps up its push into the UK luxury market.
The FTSE 250 company, which owns Sports Direct, disclosed in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that it had amassed a 4.1 per cent stake in Burberry, held via derivatives.
Under chief executive Michael Murray, Ashley’s son-in-law, Frasers has been making inroads into the luxury sector as part of a broader move upmarket.
It operates Flannels, the luxury department store chain, and owns a 37 per cent stake in Mulberry, another British luxury brand. Frasers also acquired Matches in 2023, only to put the online luxury retailer into administration less than three months later.
Frasers habitually takes stakes in major brands, often to pressure them into stocking products in its stores. The company has built a stake of more than 30 per cent in German fashion brand Hugo Boss and has launched a tender offer for the outstanding shares.
In 2024, Frasers tabled two conditional bids for Mulberry, only to be rebuffed by majority investor Challice, and repeatedly criticised its management team. A year later, the brand handed a board seat to Frasers in an attempt to ease tensions with its second-largest shareholder.
Burberry is in the middle of a turnaround after it made a damaging push upmarket just as the luxury industry began to struggle. This month, the FTSE 100 company reported that comparable sales rose by 5 per cent in the three months to the end of June.
It has enlisted British celebrities such as comedian Jennifer Saunders and tennis star Jack Draper to front a return to more practical and durable staples such as trench coats and scarves and has expanded its price range to include more affordable items.
Shares of Burberry rose 5 per cent on Tuesday after Frasers’ position was revealed, while Frasers shares were up 2.5 per cent.
Burberry declined to comment. Frasers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
