SK Innovation (096770.KS) is supporting the psychological recovery and rejuvenation of care workers to mark the 10th anniversary of its volunteer partnership program for seniors living alone. The company said the initiative aims to ease the emotional burden on workers who have been caring for older adults in the field and to build a sustainable care environment.
SK Innovation said on the 27th that it held a two-day healing camp titled "Caring for Caregivers" starting on the 26th at the Walkerhill Hotel Arcadia in Seoul's Gwangjin District, bringing together 50 participants including livelihood support workers and social workers who assist seniors living alone.
The event marked the resumption of healing camps for care workers, which had been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was organized to reduce the workload that has grown heavier as demand for care services increases.
This year's camp was built around three themes: caring for the mind, restoring body and mind, and making new resolutions. The first day featured a special lecture on recognizing personal strengths and the value of care work, along with art and gardening activities, recreation programs and peer exchange sessions. The second day included a training program for physical and mental recovery and a lecture by specialists on overcoming burnout and managing stress.
SK Innovation has carried out care activities for seniors living alone for 10 years since 2017, working to build a social safety net for vulnerable groups by identifying everyday risk factors and providing emotional support. Through this year, a total of about 36,000 people have taken part, including some 25,000 employee volunteers and about 10,000 livelihood support workers, delivering economic, emotional and social care to roughly 33,000 seniors living alone.
"To improve the sustainability of care activities for seniors living alone, attention and support for the workers on the front lines are just as important," an SK Innovation official said. "We plan to continue strengthening the protection system for seniors living alone and building a denser social safety net."
