Food companies are raising prices one after another as high exchange rates, elevated oil prices, and rising global raw material costs persist. Following Nongshim's decision to raise prices on major products such as Yukgaejang Sabalmyeon and Saewookkang, Dunkin and Tous les Jours have also adjusted prices on some products, adding to consumers' food cost burden.
According to the food industry on the 25th, Nongshim will raise the shipping prices of 43 brands, including cup noodles, snacks, and beverages, by an average of 5.8% starting on the 1st of next month.
The average price increase by product category is 6.0% for cup noodles, 5.5% for snacks, and 7.7% for beverages. The increase covers 18 cup noodle brands including Yukgaejang Sabalmyeon and Shin Ramyun Cup, 23 snack brands including Saewookkang and Honey Twist, and two beverage brands including Capri-Sun and Welch's.
As a result, at retail stores, Yukgaejang Sabalmyeon is expected to rise from 1,100 won to 1,200 won, and the 90g Saewookkang product from 1,500 won to 1,600 won. However, final retail prices may vary by distributor.
This marks the first time Nongshim has adjusted ramyun prices in one year and five months since March last year. However, packaged ramyun, which accounts for 63% of total ramyun sales, was excluded from this round of increases in consideration of the consumer burden.
Nongshim said, "Due to the prolonged effects of high exchange rates and high oil prices, the cost of materials such as packaging surged, and combined with increases in supplier delivery prices, cost pressures intensified." The company added, "We have endured through cost reductions and management efficiency, but a price adjustment was unavoidable due to deteriorating profitability."
Doughnut prices are also rising. BR Korea will raise the prices of 39 Dunkin doughnut items by an average of 6.5% starting on the 2nd of next month.
The flagship products Famous Glazed and Cacao Honey Dip will each rise by 200 won, from 1,700 won to 1,900 won. The Creme Brulee doughnut will be adjusted from 4,100 won to 4,200 won.
However, some products will maintain a downward trend, with the three "Dubai Style Doughnut" items launched last month having their prices cut by 300 to 400 won.
Tous les Jours, operated by CJ Foodville, will also raise the recommended consumer prices of 76 products, including bread and cakes, by an average of 8.2% starting on the 31st.
Daily Milk Bread will rise by 200 won, and Ttoujours Mom Egg Toast by 300 won. Instead, popular flagship products frequently sought by consumers, such as sweet red-bean bread, streusel bread, and castella, will have their prices frozen.
CJ Foodville said, "Global raw material prices, including eggs, wheat, raw sugar, and palm oil, as well as packaging materials such as naphtha, have risen significantly, and combined with the continued burden of overall costs from exchange rate and oil price increases, a price adjustment was unavoidable."
