OliX Pharmaceuticals has completed patient dosing in the Phase 1b trial of its male-pattern hair-loss treatment. After completing final patient follow-up observation this month, the company plans to enter a Phase 2a trial to fully evaluate the drug's efficacy in treating male-pattern hair loss.
OliX Pharmaceuticals (226950.KQ) said on the 4th that it completed final patient dosing on the 27th of last month in the Australian Phase 1b trial of its male-pattern hair-loss treatment "OLX104C." This comes about seven months after it began first patient dosing in the Phase 1b·2a trial in December last year.
The Phase 1b·2a trial of OLX104C evaluates safety and efficacy in men with androgenetic alopecia. In the Phase 1b portion, the drug is administered repeatedly across two dosage groups to confirm safety and tolerability and to assess the treatment's potential impact on sexual function.
With this completion of dosing, the Phase 1b trial of OLX104C has entered its final stage. The company plans to complete follow-up observation and data analysis of the final dosed patients this month before transitioning to Phase 2a to fully evaluate the in-human efficacy of OLX104C. The Phase 2a trial will verify treatment efficacy by comparing three dosage groups with a placebo group.
OLX104C is a ribonucleic acid (RNA) interference therapy designed to reduce the expression of the androgen receptor (AR), one of the main causes of male-pattern hair loss. Male-pattern hair loss is a condition in which dihydrotestosterone (DHT) binds to the AR in hair follicle cells, causing hair to gradually thin. Unlike existing oral treatments, which act throughout the body by suppressing DHT production, OLX104C is being developed to be applied topically to the scalp to lower AR expression itself. The goal is to reduce the potential for side effects from systemic exposure and the burden of taking medication daily.
"As soon as we complete final patient follow-up observation this month, we plan to analyze the data and transition to a follow-up trial to fully verify in-human efficacy," said Lee Dong-ki, CEO of OliX. "We will accelerate clinical development so that we can develop it into a new male-pattern hair-loss treatment with a differentiated mechanism and dosing convenience compared with existing treatments."
