Eli Lilly and Company(LLY.US)

Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) announced results from a real-world study showing that sustained use of Zepbound in adults over age 55 with overweight or obesity was associated with lower healthcare costs compared to untreated people.
Zepbound (tirzepatide), a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for chronic weight management, works by targeting hormones that regulate appetite and glucose metabolism. It has been shown in clinical trials to deliver significant and durable weight loss, and this study provides new evidence of its economic impact in routine care.
The study, published in Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, found that patients on Zepbound had fewer hospital admissions and emergency department visits, while showing higher engagement in routine outpatient care.
At six months, healthcare costs were up to 15% lower, translating to savings of about $181 per patient per month. By 12 months, the difference widened to as much as $607 per patient, per month, representing up to 38% lower costs than those not treated.
Importantly, the analysis indicated that by one year, estimated savings exceeded the monthly treatment cost of $195 under Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge program, suggesting that sustained therapy could deliver net cost benefits for payers and patients.
Company executives emphasized that the findings highlight the potential of obesity treatment to reduce overall healthcare spending in older populations, reinforcing the value of expanding coverage across Medicare, states, and employers.
LLY has traded between $712.05 and $1,292.65 over the past year. The stock closed Tuesday's trading at $1,233.66, down 1.06%.
