Osivax, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Lyon, France, and GC Biopharma (006280.KS), a South Korean vaccine developer, announced a long-term collaboration to develop and commercialize a next-generation seasonal influenza vaccine.
The partnership combines Osivax's proprietary OVX836, broad-spectrum influenza A vaccine candidate targeting the highly conserved nucleoprotein (NP), with GC Biopharma's WHO-prequalified GC FLU, an inactivated seasonal influenza vaccine.
The goal is to create a single injection that delivers both T-cell and antibody responses, offering broader and more durable protection against circulating and emerging influenza strains.
Under the agreement, Osivax will lead global development and commercialization outside Korea, while GC Biopharma retains exclusive rights in its domestic market. GC Biopharma will provide long-term supply of GC FLU and receive royalties. Financial terms were not disclosed.
OVX836 has already been tested in seven clinical trials with more than 4,000 participants, showing promising safety and efficacy data. By targeting NP, a stable internal antigen less prone to mutation, OVX836 aims to overcome the limitations of current flu vaccines that primarily target variable surface antigens.
Executives from both companies emphasized that the collaboration represents a key step toward addressing long-standing unmet needs in influenza prevention.
