Samsung is launching a program to provide job skills training and employment support for 1,000 unemployed young people in non-metropolitan regions.
Samsung said it held the opening ceremony for the "Youth Hope Learning Center" on the 30th at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance's Yuseong Training Center in Daejeon. Full-scale training will begin on the 3rd of next month across four regions nationwide: Chungcheong, Honam, Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam.
The Youth Hope Learning Center is part of the government's "K-New Deal Academy," a project to strengthen young people's job skills and support their employment. Samsung provides practical, job-focused training to young people outside the capital region, drawing on its operational experience from "Hope Stepping Stone 2.0," which has supported employment for youth transitioning to independence, as well as the training infrastructure of its affiliates.
The training courses were designed to reflect regional industries' workforce demand and the potential for employment connections. They comprise six fields: electronics and information technology (IT) manufacturing technicians, air-conditioning and refrigeration technicians, ship manufacturing technicians, heavy equipment operators, online advertising and public relations practitioners, and confectionery and baking technicians.
The program does not stop at simple job training. It supports trainees as a single package, from basic skills education to specialized training by job field, certification acquisition and career development. Samsung plans to increase the share of hands-on practice so that trainees acquire skills at a level that allows them to be deployed to industrial sites immediately after completion.
To help trainees focus on their training, Samsung provides affiliate training facilities, cafeterias and shuttle buses. It also decided to run specialized hands-on training tailored to each region, reflecting the industrial structure and corporate demand of each area.
This year, a total of 1,000 unemployed young people outside the capital region will be selected in two rounds, first and second half. A total of 550 people will participate in this training, and the second-half course will begin in November after recruitment in August.
The opening ceremony on the same day was attended by about 250 people, including Vice Minister of Employment and Labor Kwon Chang-jun, People Power Party lawmaker Lee So-hee, Yeo Myeong-gu, Executive Vice President and head of Samsung Electronics' (005930.KS) DS Social Contribution Group, and trainees from the Chungcheong region. Trainees from the Honam, Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions also participated online. Democratic Party lawmaker Hwang Jung-ah delivered congratulatory remarks by video.
"The K-New Deal Academy is a win-win policy in which companies meet future talent, young people build their skills, and the government backs them up," Vice Minister Kwon said. "I hope young people will grow one step further through the Youth Hope Learning Center."
"The skills learned at the Youth Hope Learning Center will become a solid competitive edge for trainees," Yeo said. "Samsung will continue to work to nurture technical talent needed at industrial sites and expand growth opportunities for young people."
Under its social contribution vision, "Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People," Samsung operates education programs for teenagers and young adults, including Samsung Software Academy for Youth (SSAFY), Samsung Hope Stepping Stone, Samsung Dream Class, Samsung Blue Elephant, and skills training for the WorldSkills Competition.
