Huons Lab, a subsidiary of Huons Global, is strengthening its intellectual property portfolio by broadening the scope of HyDIFFUZE, its formulation-conversion platform based on recombinant human hyaluronidase.
The company said on the 31st that it had completed domestic patent registrations and filed a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application covering 11 subcutaneous (SC) antibody drug formulations that use HyDIFFUZE. It plans to file patents in individual overseas countries as well.
The patents cover 11 antibodies: pembrolizumab, bevacizumab, obinutuzumab, ramucirumab, donanemab, isatuximab, durvalumab, dostarlimab, cetuximab, risankizumab and dupilumab.
In preclinical pharmacokinetic (PK) testing, SC formulations using HyDIFFUZE showed peak blood concentrations (Cmax) about 113% to 170% of those in the group without the platform, and drug exposure (AUC) about 117% to 162%, depending on the antibody. The company said the results confirmed HyDIFFUZE could be used to convert a range of antibody drugs into SC formulations.
SC formulations have drawn growing attention in the global biopharmaceutical market because they improve patient convenience and shorten administration times at medical institutions. As developers move more aggressively to convert intravenous (IV) antibody drugs to SC delivery, platform technologies that enable subcutaneous delivery of high-dose drugs are becoming more important.
"We have confirmed HyDIFFUZE's applicability across a range of antibody drugs and secured the related rights," said Lim Chae-young, executive vice president and head of Huons Lab's bio research institute. "We will expand the scope of application to a wider range of biopharmaceuticals and strengthen our commercialization base."
Beyond antibody drugs, Huons Lab is also pursuing SC conversion of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). It recently registered a patent for an ADC SC formulation using HyDIFFUZE. The company applied to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in December last year for approval of a standalone recombinant human hyaluronidase product, and is targeting approval this year.
