OCI Holdings posted its third consecutive quarter of operating profit, driven by its U.S. solar business and improved earnings at key subsidiaries. With first-half operating profit of 118.9 billion won, expectations are rising for a full-year operating profit.
OCI Holdings (010060) reported second-quarter revenue of 1.0231 trillion won, operating profit of 108 billion won, and net profit of 60.6 billion won on a consolidated basis, according to a preliminary regulatory filing on the 23rd. Compared with the same period last year, revenue rose 31.8% from 776.2 billion won, while operating profit turned positive from a loss of 80.3 billion won and net profit from a loss of 82.4 billion won.
The strong results came as North American subsidiary OCI Energy (456040) sold a 500-megawatt solar project, along with balanced growth at key subsidiaries including operating company OCI and urban development firm DCRE. OCI Holdings said it is "building a solar supply chain that runs from its polysilicon production base in Malaysia to NeoSilicon Technology in Vietnam, responding to U.S. policy uncertainty."
Its Malaysian unit, OCI TerraSus, completed legal maintenance of its solar-grade polysilicon production line in the first quarter and resumed normal operations, stabilizing costs and narrowing its loss from the previous quarter. Recently, it signed a long-term supply agreement (LTA) for solar polysilicon with a new U.S. customer, and its annual production capacity of 35,000 tons is already sold out.
In response to U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure demand, OCI Holdings plans to pursue expansion starting in the second half. Once the expansion is completed in 2029, production capacity will grow from the current 35,000 tons to 70,000 tons. Vietnamese wafer producer NeoSilicon Technology also plans to secure a total production capacity of 11.5 gigawatts through phased expansion by 2029.
OCI Energy, which handles the U.S. solar business, recently secured new revenue by selling the 500-megawatt La Salle project. Construction is set to begin at the end of this year, and the company is expected to generate stable power sales revenue by signing a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a local big tech company. OCI Energy currently holds a total of 29 solar project development assets totaling 6.5 gigawatts, centered on Texas in the United States.
Lee Woo-hyun, chairman of OCI Holdings, said, "Solar demand is rising in the U.S. energy market due to the expansion of AI data centers." He added, "We will expand investment in the solar value chain and respond preemptively to changes in the global supply chain."
