不做 Techcombank(TCB.VN)
KB Financial Group(105560.KS)
BNP Paribas(BNP.FR)

KB Kookmin Bank is considering acquiring a stake in Techcombank, one of Vietnam's largest private banks.
Kookmin Bank and France's BNP Paribas are separately in talks to buy at least 15% of Techcombank as foreign strategic investors, according to financial industry sources and foreign media reports on the 26th.
Reuters, citing multiple sources, reported the same day that the two banks had entered a deal worth $2 billion, or about 2.76 trillion won, as strategic investors. It remains unclear whether the negotiations will produce an agreement, the report added, and Techcombank may choose one of the two as its strategic investor.
Kookmin Bank said the talks have not reached an advanced stage. "When it comes to stake purchases for business expansion, we review dozens of financial firms at home and abroad as standing candidates," an official at the bank said. "Techcombank is just one of them, and we are not at a stage of concrete acquisition negotiations or discussions."
Founded in 1993, Techcombank is Vietnam's third-largest private bank by total assets. As of the end of June, total assets stood at 1,273 trillion dong, or about $48.76 billion, and customer deposits at 697.4 trillion dong. Its customer base topped 18 million as of the end of 2025.
Price is the key variable in closing the deal. Techcombank is understood to be seeking a valuation of about twice book value. At that level, a 15% stake would be worth about $2 billion, roughly 55% above the value implied by the current share price. Vietnam caps foreign ownership at 30% for most banks, and foreign investors currently hold about 20.5% of Techcombank. Since HSBC sold its entire holding in 2017, Techcombank has been one of the few large Vietnamese private banks without a strategic partner.
"Demand for wealth management is growing sharply in Vietnam along with an expanding middle class," an official in the financial industry said. "If KB actually moves ahead with an equity investment, it could broaden its local footprint in the wealth management market."
