Research on the Social Progress Credit (SPC), supported by the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies established by SK, has been published in a prominent international journal in the social sciences.
According to the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies on the 23rd, a paper by Kim Sang-jun, a professor at the School of Business Administration at Ewha Womans University, titled "The Response of Dual-Purpose Organizations to Economic Rewards: An Agent-Based Model Approach," was published in the June issue this year of "Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory," an international journal in the field of organizational simulation ranked in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI).
The SPC is a social-performance-based reward system that measures the social value created by social enterprises in monetary terms and pays incentives in proportion to that performance. It is a concept proposed by Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK (034730) Group, at the 2013 Davos Forum to address social problems.
This paper is a research achievement that verified the policy effects of the SPC, and it was conducted using SPC data provided by the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies. The analysis found that the SPC creates a virtuous cycle in which the social performance and economic performance of social enterprises grow together.
Companies that received the SPC first showed higher motivation to create social value, which in turn improved their social performance. The improved social performance again led to additional SPC rewards, expanding the companies' resources, and the secured resources were again used to enhance social and economic performance, forming a virtuous cycle.
"Through simulation, we confirmed that social-performance-based rewards such as the SPC can strengthen social enterprises' motivation to create social value, and that improved social performance can in turn lead to improved economic performance, forming a virtuous cycle," said Kim Sang-jun, professor at the School of Business Administration at Ewha Womans University.
