POSCO Future M said it will boost manufacturing productivity by 30% and cut product development time by 50% within two years through a company-wide artificial intelligence transformation (AX) drive.
POSCO Future M (003670) on the 28th presented "BoT (Battery of Things) Ecosystem Game Changer" as its digital innovation vision and established a company-wide AX roadmap centered on process standardization and data.
POSCO Future M plans to apply AI across its entire process, from raw material procurement to product manufacturing and customer collaboration, laying the foundation to grow into a global materials company. The company selected as its key initiatives: optimizing processes and systems by integrating AI agents; accelerating intelligence based on an integrated data hub; realizing intelligent factories using AI; end-to-end (E2E) intelligent hyperconnectivity from raw materials to products; and advancing R&D collaboration with strategic customers.
If POSCO Future M successfully completes its AI-based manufacturing innovation, which it aims to finish in the first half of 2028, it will raise manufacturing productivity by 30% through physical AI-based intelligent manufacturing processes. In the research and development sector, it will halve product development time by applying AI-driven technology trend analysis, design, and virtual verification. It will also double its customer response speed for tasks such as cause analysis and remedial action on quality issues, through automation using quality analysis robots.
AI-based order marketing will also become more strategic and proactive. By actively introducing AI simulation across the entire process — from raw material price forecasting to customer demand projection and sales price negotiation — the company will be able to conduct order negotiations based on empirical data. Through this, it plans to optimize operations by integrating monitoring across the entire process of contracts, orders, production, and shipment.
On the ESG front, the company will build a system that uses AI to automatically identify, diagnose, and optimize inefficient equipment operation, reducing energy consumption and improving operational efficiency.
POSCO Future M plans to establish a virtuous cycle in which AI manufacturing innovation raises customer trust in quality stability and manufacturing competitiveness, and links this to expanded orders and the acquisition of new customers. Along with this, based on data accumulated across the entire process of product production, management, and sales, the company intends to build a platform that will lead standards in a battery ecosystem expanding beyond electric vehicles to energy storage systems (ESS), robots, and drones, and to create new business opportunities.
Going forward, POSCO Future M will apply AI agents by default to newly developed systems to minimize staff intervention. It also plans to train at least one AI utilization expert per department within the year to lead the identification and execution of AI projects, thereby driving the spread and settlement of AI manufacturing innovation results.
