Coupang (CPNG) said on the 15th that it had formally launched an information security advisory committee made up of outside experts, part of its efforts to build a more objective and credible security system following a leak of customer data.
The committee brings together seven external specialists in information security, law, management and IT. Heo Seong-wook, chairman of the Korea CPO Forum and a former head of the network policy bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT and former president of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, was named co-chair alongside Brett Mattis, Coupang's chief information security officer. The other members are Kang Yu-min, an adviser at Kim & Chang; Kwak Jin, a professor at Ajou University; Kim Hyun-kyung, a professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Ahn Jung-ho, an attorney at Shin & Kim; Yang Je-yeol, a professor at Kyung Hee University; and Jang Hang-bae, a professor at Chung-Ang University.
Starting with its first meeting on the same day, the committee will convene quarterly to track changes in laws and regulations and trends in security threats, and to advise the company on its security issues and policies. Coupang said it plans to actively incorporate the committee's recommendations into internal security policies and work processes.
The company also briefed the committee on the customer data protection measures it has pursued so far, and said it would use that as a basis for continued communication.
"We will keep improving our security systems by drawing fully on the outstanding experience and knowledge of top experts," a Coupang official said. "We will make efforts that go beyond global standards."
