Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720.KS) is partnering with a national research institute to pursue research and development in future transportation and logistics infrastructure.
Hyundai E&C said on the 13th that it signed a memorandum of understanding on the 10th at the Korea Railroad Research Institute to "establish a mutual cooperation framework for advancing railway construction technology and upgrading the industry." The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both organizations, including Kim Jae-young, head of the HMG Construction Technology Research Institute—the integrated R&D organization of Hyundai E&C and Hyundai Engineering—and Sagong Myung, president of the Korea Railroad Research Institute.
The agreement was arranged to strengthen technology development cooperation across the railway construction and infrastructure sectors and to promote the commercialization of research outcomes. The two organizations will build a long-term cooperation framework by expanding joint research and exchanges on core infrastructure technologies and jointly utilizing research facilities and equipment.
The two organizations will share the latest technology trends in future mobility infrastructure, including railway 3D development and underground railway logistics transport technology, and explore concrete cooperation opportunities. Railway 3D development is a future-oriented railway infrastructure concept that increases the utilization of urban space by developing and using the space around tracks in three dimensions.
The two organizations will also continue cooperation in future transportation infrastructure in connection with the development of core sub-vacuum technology for the high-speed hyperloop, in which both are participating. They plan to broaden the scope of cooperation to include technology verification and demonstration, research and business consulting, education and seminars, and policy exchanges.
"This agreement will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen R&D cooperation to secure future growth engines in the railway sector," said Kim Jae-young, head of the HMG Construction Technology Research Institute. "Based on our accumulated engineering technology and field execution experience, we will continue to secure core technologies for future railway infrastructure and respond preemptively to the changing transportation environment."
"Railway infrastructure is a core foundational facility of the national transportation system, requiring technological advancement that considers not only safety, constructability, and maintainability but also connectivity with future urban space," said Sagong Myung, president of the Korea Railroad Research Institute. "Through this agreement, we will expand demand-oriented research cooperation with the industry to contribute to the practical application of core technologies and to strengthening the competitiveness of national railway technology."
