Intel climbs premarket after AI-fueled quarterly sales exceed estimates
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. - CS PowerTech Inc., a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ), announced today the opening of the first phase of its photovoltaic cell manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, according to a press release statement.
The facility will produce heterojunction bifacial N-type solar cells at the River Ridge Commerce Center. At full capacity, the plant is expected to produce more than 6 gigawatts annually and employ more than 1,200 workers. The company stated the facility represents nearly $1 billion in local investment.
CS PowerTech operates the facility alongside its module manufacturing plant in Mesquite, Texas. The company described itself as the largest silicon PV solar manufacturer in the U.S.
"Jeffersonville is a cornerstone of our strategy to build one of North America’s most advanced energy manufacturing supply chains," said Rusty Schmit, President of CS PowerTech Inc.
Colin Parkin, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Solar Inc., stated, "The Jeffersonville facility demonstrates our commitment to scaling one of the world’s most advanced solar cell technologies in the United States."
Indiana Governor Mike Braun said the investment strengthens the state’s position in advanced manufacturing and creates jobs in the region.
The facility will ramp production to full capacity for phase one over the next few months. CS PowerTech expects to begin work on phase two expansion before the end of the year.
Canadian Solar, headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, has been publicly listed on NASDAQ since 2006. The company has delivered nearly 177 gigawatts of solar photovoltaic modules to customers globally over the past 25 years.
