Oil prices tumble over amid halt to fighting between U.S., Iran
PARIS - Canal+ S.A. (LSE:CAN) (JSE:CNP) announced Sunday a five-year agreement to invest €980 million in French and European cinema starting in 2028, according to a press release statement.
The agreement was signed with BLIC and several industry organizations including SRF, SPI, UPC, DIRE, SDI, Animfrance, and ARP. The deal applies to Canal+’s CINÉ+ OCS services.
The investment will support several categories of film production, including works by new filmmakers, debut films, diversity films, animated films, and productions aimed at wide audiences. The agreement includes provisions for improving movie visibility and supporting diversity in film productions.
Under the terms, Canal+ will continue offering subscribers French, European and international films six months after their theatrical release. The company described the agreement’s duration and scale as unprecedented for a broadcaster-film industry partnership.
"By investing a record amount of nearly 1 billion euros over an unprecedented five-year term, we are proud to reaffirm our support for cinema, its power, creativity, and diversity," said Maxime Saada, CEO of Canal+.
The agreement includes structural safeguards designed to ensure balanced development of film production and provisions to enhance the status of film authors. The parties stated the deal aims to preserve France’s media chronology framework, which governs film distribution windows.
Canal+ is incorporated in France with identification number 835 150 434 and trades under the share codes CAN on the London Stock Exchange and CNP on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
