Oil extends slide as U.S.-Iran talks raise hopes of lasting de-escalation
MCGREGOR, Texas - Galaxy Digital Inc. (NASDAQ:GLXY) announced today the acquisition of approximately 500 acres in McGregor, McLennan County, Texas, for the construction of an artificial intelligence and high-performance computing data center campus.
The company purchased the site in McGregor’s Industrial Park pursuant to a development agreement with the City of McGregor, providing approximately $7.5 million in land-sale revenue to the city. The campus represents Galaxy’s second major data center investment in Texas, following its 1.6-gigawatt Helios campus in West Texas.
Galaxy has executed a services agreement with Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative for interconnection facilities to support the campus. An initial development phase is expected to reach 74 MW, with the company planning to coordinate with the utility for development above the 75 MW threshold in ERCOT. The initial phase is expected to begin receiving power in 2028, with operations ramping thereafter, according to the press release statement.
The company stated it believes the McGregor campus has the potential to grow into a multi-hundred-megawatt campus through 2030, subject to completion of additional transmission infrastructure by the utility.
Under the development agreement, Galaxy committed to building a private electrical substation on the campus and providing financial security for incidental upgrades to local infrastructure. The project is expected to add an estimated minimum of $130 million to the local property tax base.
The facility will use a closed-loop cooling system that recirculates water internally. Construction is expected to support several hundred trade partners and construction jobs, with permanent full-time operations roles to follow at competitive annual salaries agreed to with the city.
"McGregor is the next step in our strategy to build a disciplined, multi-campus data center business," said Mike Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Galaxy.
Galaxy acquired its Helios campus in Dickens County, Texas, in 2022, which now has more than 1.6 GW of ERCOT-approved power capacity.
