HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford (NYSE:HIG) announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Equitable’s Employee Benefits business, which represents approximately $500 million in premium, according to a press release statement.
The transaction includes Equitable’s group life, disability, paid family and medical leave, supplemental health, dental and vision products. The Hartford will also acquire Equitable’s Employee Benefits technology platform. Approximately 300 employees supporting the acquired business will join The Hartford upon closing.
The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
"This acquisition reinforces The Hartford’s leadership in employee benefits and small business," said Christopher Swift, The Hartford’s Chairman and CEO.
