Oil rises 3% as U.S. strikes on Iran revive Hormuz supply disruption concerns
HOUSTON - CenterPoint Energy (NYSE:CNP) activated its Emergency Operations Center on Monday to prepare for potential impacts from weather system Invest 97L, which is expected to affect Southeast Texas starting Tuesday.
The system could bring several inches of heavy rainfall, localized flooding and gusty winds to the Greater Houston region Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a company press release statement.
Jason Fabre, CenterPoint Energy’s Vice President of Special Response & Distribution Operations and Incident Commander, said the company has activated preparedness plans and crews stand ready to respond to service impacts.
CenterPoint is preparing frontline personnel for potential restoration efforts and inspecting power lines and electric substations across the Greater Houston area. The company is also deploying local personnel to clear hazardous vegetation from power lines.
The utility is coordinating with local officials and emergency management partners on preparedness efforts. CenterPoint’s meteorology team is tracking weather forecast developments around the clock.
The company is encouraging customers to enroll in Power Alert Service to receive outage details, estimated restoration times and updates via phone, text or email. Customers can also access the company’s cloud-based Outage Tracker, available in English and Spanish, to view outages and restoration times by county, city and zip code.
CenterPoint serves more than 7 million metered customers in Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas with electric transmission and distribution, power generation and natural gas distribution operations. As of June 30, 2026, the company owned approximately $48.3 billion in assets.
