Wall Street ends higher on Dell, Nvidia boost and a let up in oil prices, yields
Investing.com -- M&G reported first-half adjusted operating profit (AOP) of £435 million, up 15% year-over-year and a record for the period, driven by 24% growth in its Asset Management business and 9% growth in Life.
Asset Management adjusted operating profit rose to £159 million from £128 million, benefiting from higher recurring revenues of £565 million. Life adjusted operating profit increased to £375 million from £344 million, driven by stronger results in PruFund and Traditional With-Profits, which more than offset a lower contribution from annuities.
The Corporate Centre loss widened slightly to £99 million from £94 million, reflecting lower interest income amid falling short-term rates.
M&G reported an IFRS loss after tax of £165 million, reversing a £248 million profit a year earlier, hit by £551 million in adverse short-term investment return fluctuations, including £325 million pre-tax tied to proposed changes to Ground Rent legislation.
The Contractual Service Margin, a measure of future profit, grew 6% to £7.0 billion from £6.6 billion at the end of 2025. Operating Capital Generation fell to £372 million from £408 million, mainly due to higher capital requirements in Asset Management and the Corporate Centre.
The company declared a first interim dividend of 6.8 pence per share, up from 6.7 pence a year earlier, payable October 16.
M&G posted net inflows from open business of £2.4 billion despite a volatile market environment, with Asset Management accounting for the bulk of that via £2.2 billion in net inflows from external clients. External client assets in Asset Management grew to £189 billion, or 53% of total assets under management and administration.
Looking ahead, M&G said it remains committed to average annual adjusted operating profit growth of at least 5% over 2025-2027 and, citing strong performance so far this year, now expects low double-digit AOP growth for the full year.
The company is progressing toward its target cost-to-income ratio of 70%, having already reached 73% in the first half, and remains on track to meet its target of £2.7 billion in cumulative Operating Capital Generation, excluding new business strain, over 2025-2027.
