ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Glaukos Corporation (
NYSE:GKOS
) announced Wednesday an exclusive license agreement with RevOpsis Therapeutics to develop and commercialize RO-104, a tri-specific biologic for treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macula edema, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion.
The agreement grants Glaukos exclusive rights to RevOpsis’ RevMod platform for discovering and developing up to four additional retinal biologic candidates in geographic atrophy, diabetic macula edema, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and neovascular age-related macular degeneration, according to a press release statement.
RO-104 is designed to simultaneously block VEGF-A and VEGF-C while inhibiting Ang-2, three angiogenic pathways implicated in vascular disease progression. The company stated the drug demonstrated superior preclinical efficacy in animal models compared to approved anti-VEGF therapeutics.
"The addition of RO-104 and exclusive access to the proprietary RevMod platform in the field of retina represents an important strategic step in the continued expansion of our retinal franchise," said Thomas Burns, Glaukos chairman and chief executive officer.
