) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Fast Track designation to VIR-5500 for the treatment of late-line metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, according to a press release statement.

The combination regimen cohorts include VIR-5500 with enzalutamide in early-line mCRPC, VIR-5500 with docetaxel in early-line mCRPC and VIR-5500 with darolutamide in metastatic hormone sensitive prostate cancer.
Phase 1 data reported earlier this year showed VIR-5500 was generally well tolerated and exhibited anti-tumor activity in patients with mCRPC. Phase 3 trials are anticipated to begin in 2027.
VIR-5500 combines a bispecific PSMA and CD3 binding T-cell engager with PRO-XTEN masking technology. The technology is designed to keep the T-cell engagers inactive until they reach the tumor microenvironment, where tumor-specific proteases cleave off the mask and activate the T-cell engagers.
Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer is associated with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 30%, according to the company.
