ASML stock gains on raised 2026 outlook, capacity expansion plans
Investing.com -- Shares in British IT products and services provider Softcat fell over 7% on Wednesday after it forecast slower growth in underlying operating profit for the financial year to July 2027, despite a 24.7% rise in annual gross profit.
Softcat said it expects underlying operating profit growth in the new financial year to be "high single-digit," slightly ahead of gross profit growth.
Underlying operating profit rose 19.4% to £215.1 million in the year ended July 31. The forecast excludes any contribution from its acquisition of GDT, a U.S.-based multi-vendor IT solutions provider announced after the year-end.
Gross profit rose to £616.3 million, helped by "strong underlying progress across all technology areas and customer groups and exceptional performance in corporate." Softcat said growth in gross profit and underlying operating profit came in "significantly ahead of our expectations at the start of the year."
The company said business momentum remains strong and that the forecast follows very strong growth in the two previous financial years. It said the GDT deal would give it more capability in the United States and help it serve customers with international needs.
Underlying operating profit came after what the company called "significant investment" in people, capabilities, systems, data and its office network. Statutory operating profit rose 13.6% to £196.4 million, after £18.7 million of non-underlying costs, mainly relating to investment in a new sales system.
Gross invoiced income rose 30.5% to £4.72 billion, driven by "very strong, broad-based performance together with the contribution from larger solutions projects," Softcat said. Revenue rose 35.4% to £1.98 billion.
Chief Executive Graham Charlton said AI is "one of several factors making IT infrastructure more critical, complex and strategically important." He said memory chip supply constraints "have added complexity to pricing, availability and planning," and that customers "remain disciplined with their investments, but they continue to spend on technology."
Basic earnings per share rose 13.8% to 75.8 pence. On an underlying basis, they rose 19.7% to 83.2 pence.
Softcat proposed a final dividend of 21.6 pence, up 5.9%, bringing the full-year ordinary dividend to 31.5 pence, up 7.5% from 29.3 pence. It paid no special dividend this year, compared with 16.1 pence a year earlier.
Including a £45 million share buyback completed in February 2026, Softcat returned £137.5 million to shareholders in the year.
Net cash and cash equivalents stood at £199.9 million at year-end, up from £182.3 million. Underlying cash conversion was 93.6%, down from 95.6%.
