Investing.com -- SAP (ETR:SAPG) (NYSE:SAP) on Wednesday delivered third-quarter results that topped Wall Street expectations across key metrics and raised its full-year revenue outlook.
The Germany-based company reported non-IFRS earnings of €1.89 per share on total revenue of €10.27 billion, ahead of analyst estimates pointing to €1.83 per share and €10.10 billion, respectively. Strong demand for enterprise cloud transformations drove a 26% jump in cloud revenue to €6.67 billion, while current cloud backlog (CCB) expanded 28% to €24.14 billion, reflecting sustained adoption of the company’s core software platform.
Still, the company’s Germany-listed shares fell more than 1% after the market open.
"SAP kicked off our earnings season with much better cloud bookings and revenue than we’d expected; we hope it’s a harbinger for better results ahead for the sector," KeyBanc Capital Markets analysts said, raising their price target to €235 from €200.
Management narrowed its 2026 financial guidance toward the upper bound of previous expectations. SAP now expects full-year cloud revenue to land at the high end of its €25.8 billion to €26.2 billion target range, while maintaining its projection for non-IFRS operating profit between €11.8 billion and €12.2 billion.
SAP expects revenue growth to accelerate in fiscal 2027, but macroeconomic uncertainty could weigh on fourth-quarter bookings, which account for about half of annual bookings.
"While we recognize management’s caution given that ~50% of annual bookings remain concentrated in Q4, along with rising interest rates and broader macro uncertainty, we believe the unchanged CCB outlook appears conservative relative to the strength of recent demand trends," BMO Capital Markets analysts said.
"We believe some amount of conservatism is embedded in the guidance narrative," they added.
The quarter highlighted ongoing operational execution alongside disciplined cost controls as non-IFRS operating profit rose 18% to €3.03 billion, helping offset ongoing declines in legacy software support revenues. Chief Executive Officer Christian Klein noted that enterprise customers are increasingly committing to the company’s Business AI offerings and automated tools to drive operational transformations.
Meanwhile, liquidity generation remained strong as free cash flow surged 36% during the quarter to €1.72 billion. The company also continued to return capital to shareholders, repurchasing approximately €4.2 billion worth of shares through the end of September under its multi-year €10 billion buyback program.
