Shares of oat milk producer Oatly (OTLY) rallied into Wednesday’s open on better-than-expected second quarter results and an updated outlook for the year that was dramatically improved from the previous guidance.
Improved channel mix, products, and customers helped Oatly (OTLY) see a 15% increase in sales that beat Wall Street’s expectations by more than $21M. This helped cut Q4 loss by more than half to $0.99 per share, $0.09 better than anticipated.
Sales increased in all regions but were especially better in Europe, where the company saw a 21% increase versus 11% in China and 6% in North America. This led to a 140 basis point improvement in gross margin to 33.9%.
“These strong returns reinforce our commitment to reinvest in the business, and we are pleased to increase our outlook for revenue growth in 2026. We continue to make progress reducing our cost structure, and the cost pressures associated with the conflict in the Middle East are tracking according to our expectations,” Oatly CEO Jean-Christophe Flatin said.
For the remainder of the year, the Malmo, Sweden-based company now expects revenue to increase by 8% to 10% from an earlier projection of 3% to 5% growth with foreign exchange to represent a 200 to 250 basis point tailwind. This compares to an earlier estimate for a tailwind of 100 to 200 basis points and translates to a range of $931.5M and $948.75M versus $918.9M estimates.
