GE Aerospace (GE) on Wednesday said its CFM International joint venture with France's Safran (SAFRF)(SAFRY) signed a memorandum of understanding with FlyOne Armenia to supply four LEAP-1A engines to power two Airbus A321neo aircraft.
The engine agreement supports an aircraft order that FlyOne Armenia announced in May during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Yerevan.
FlyOne Armenia, the country's largest airline, already operates four Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by CFM56-5B engines. The new agreement marks its first order for LEAP engines.
The Yerevan-based carrier, which was established in 2021, operates scheduled and charter flights to more than 26 destinations across Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East.
The announcement comes as the Farnborough International Airshow gets underway this week, an event that has traditionally served as one of the aerospace industry's biggest stages for aircraft and engine manufacturers to unveil commercial orders. Investors closely watch the show for signs of airline demand, production trends and the strength of aerospace supply chains.
CFM International said more than 10,000 LEAP engines have been delivered since the program entered service.
The company has been introducing upgrades including a high pressure turbine durability kit designed to extend engine time on wing and a reverse bleed system intended to reduce maintenance requirements.
