Private equity firm Platinum Equity is close to a deal to purchase a stake in Nestlé’s (NSRGY) European water business that would value the company at close to €5 billion.
The parties are trying to come to an agreement for 50% of the unit before Nestlé's (NSRGY) half-year results on Thursday, according to a Financial Times report on Wednesday, which cited people familiar with the matter. The transaction would be structured as a joint venture.
Platinum Equity emerged as the sole bidder after rival groups, including KKR (KKR), CD&R, and PAI Partners, left the sales process, according to the report.
Nestlé declined to comment to the FT. Platinum didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bloomberg reported in January that Nestlé (NSRGY) was moving ahead with the sale of a stake in its €5 billion ($5.8 billion) water business.
Nestlé shares rose 2.9% in Swiss trading on Wednesday.
