Paramount Skydance (PSKY) received conditional approval from the European Union for its planned $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
Under the agreement with the European Commission, Paramount (PSKY) agreed to terminate its stake in the United International Pictures joint venture in Europe within 13 months of the closing of the transaction, according to a statement from the regulator on Wednesday. For a period of 10 years, Paramount will not enter into any agreement or understanding with Comcast's (CMCSA) Universal to jointly co-distribute films in Europe."These commitments fully address the competition concerns identified by the Commission by ensuring that the films of the merged entity will not be distributed jointly with those of Universal or Disney," the regulator said in a statement.
While the mega media deal was approved in Europe, closing the deal has been delayed after 12 states sued to block the transaction last Monday. On Monday, a judge granted a temporary restraining order that prohibits the deal from closing for at least 14 days.
Shares of Paramount Skydance (PSKY) rose 2.6% on Wednesday.
