Scribe Therapeutics (SCTX), a gene therapy developer whose collaborators include Sanofi (SNY) and Eli Lilly (LLY), rose nearly 50% in its first trading session as a public company on Friday after an upsized IPO that raised $128.7M in gross proceeds.
Shares of the Bay Area biotech opened at $25 each at about 11:45 am ET, indicating more than a 66% rise from its IPO price of $15, which was at the top end of the marketed range of $13–$15 per share. The stock reached $22.19 at about 1:25 pm ET, implying a 47.9% gain.
Late Thursday, the company priced the offering of roughly 8.6M shares of its common stock, up from ~7.2M it previously proposed to offer ahead of its trading debut on Nasdaq. Scribe (SCTX) disclosed in a filing that its partners Eli Lilly (LLY) and Sanofi (SNY) agreed to buy additional stock at the IPO price.
Sanofi (SNY) agreed to purchase approximately 7.5M shares in a concurrent private placement, and Lilly (LLY) indicated its intention to raise its stake to about 11% by buying additional stock after the private placement and IPO.
Underwriters have a 30-day option to buy up to an additional ~1.3M shares at the IPO price.
