Philip Morris International (PM) announced on Monday that its U.S. business opened a new Aurora, Colorado manufacturing campus after investing a total of $1.2B from 2024 through 2028. The site makes Zyn nicotine pouches and is meant to strengthen domestic production, improve supply chain resilience, and support exports.Notably, Philip Morris (PM) highlighted that the Aurora campus is its first greenfield manufacturing and production complex in the U.S. and was built in about 19 months. The campus, which sits on 148 acres and spans about 780K square feet, will directly employ about 500 people and could generate about $550M in annual economic impact once fully operational. The facility joins existing U.S. operations in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Wilson, North Carolina."This facility expands our production capacity, strengthens our supply chain, and enhances our ability to serve growing demand in the United States and around the world," noted Philip Morris International U.S. CEO Stacey Kennedy.Zyn’s history starts in Sweden, where Swedish Match developed the brand in the early 2010s and first tested it in the U.S. in 2014, beginning in Colorado. It expanded across western states in 2016, then grew rapidly as nicotine pouches gained wider acceptance in the U.S. and other markets. Philip Morris International (PM) acquired Swedish Match in 2022, bringing Zyn under its ownership.Over time, Zyn became the dominant nicotine pouch brand in the U.S. and a key part of Philip Morris' (PM) smoke-free portfolio.
