Strategy (MSTR) was trading higher as the bitcoin treasury company announced a repurchase of its preferred stock instead of buying bitcoin in the past week, signaling a hit to its business model from the recent crypto rout.
Shares were 2.63% higher at $94.08.
For the third week in a row, Strategy neither bought nor sold any bitcoin (BTC-USD) during the period of July 20 to July 26. The company's aggregate bitcoin holdings remain at 843,775, acquired for an aggregate purchase price of $63.69B and an average price of $75,476.
BTC-USD was trading 0.72% lower at $64,911 before the U.S. market open on Monday.
Meanwhile, MSTR sold 5,429,160 of its class A shares for net proceeds of $544.5M, raising its USD reserve to $3.75B as of July 26 from $3.225B on July 19.
The USD reserve is intended to support the payment of dividends on the company's preferred stock and interest on its outstanding debt.
During the prior week, Strategy repurchased 288,930 of its Strategy Inc 9.0% SERIES A PERPETUAL STRETCH PREF STK (STRC) shares for $25.0M.
