Shares of American Express (AXP) were rising on Monday after six consecutive sessions of declines. The stock was up 2.42% to $334.05 during the afternoon.
The company began its downward trajectory on July 17 when it closed 1.72% lower at $355.35.
On July 24, its shares were further pressured following the firm’s mixed second-quarter results. While its per-share earnings breached estimates, a lower-than-expected Q2 net interest income contributed to a revenue miss.
The credit card lender and network revised its guidance for revenue growth to 10% from its prior view of 9%-10%. The new guidance implies 2026 revenue of $79.5B, meeting the consensus estimate of $79.5B. American Express also reaffirmed its 2026 EPS guidance of $17.30-$17.90 and the average analyst estimate of $17.69.
Between July 17 and July 24, AXP has lost 8.21%. On a year-to-date basis, American Express has declined nearly 10% compared to an 8.28% rise in the S&P 500 index.
As per Seeking Alpha’s quant rating, AXP has a Hold rating with a score of 3.24 out of 5. The company has been rated A+ for profitability but has scored an F for valuation.
However, both Seeking Alpha and Wall Street analysts share a consensus rating of Buy for the stock. A total of five Seeking Alpha analysts have rated the stock as Buy and above, and a similar rating has been issued by 15 Wall Street analysts.
