Union Pacific (UNP) and Norfolk Southern (NSC) said they have completed their response to the Surface Transportation Board regarding their deal.
The new commitments are provided with the supplemental information requested by the STB when it accepted the companies’ merger application as complete on May 28, according to a statement on Monday.
"The merger will provide our customers faster, more reliable, and efficient coast-to-coast service from day one and create cost savings that will flow through to consumers,” Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena said in the statement." “We talk to our customers every day, and as we listened to them and reviewed the STB’s comments, we saw opportunities to provide additional assurances through an unprecedented set of voluntary commitments to our customers.”
The filing to the railroad agency includes four new or expanded commitments. The companies expect the deal will be completed in mid-2027.
The STB in May said it accepted the application from the companies about their proposed deal, though it paused its review as the authority needs additional information from the companies.
