Porsche (POAHY) plans to cut around one in five jobs by 2035 as the German luxury automaker intensifies cost-cutting efforts in response to weakening demand in China, slower-than-expected EV adoption, and mounting competitive pressures.
The company plans to axe a total of 9000 jobs. The latest plan includes an additional 5,000 job cuts through natural attrition and voluntary departures, adding to 3,900 positions previously slated for elimination and another 500 jobs linked to subsidiary closures. The company employed about 42,600 people at the end of 2024.
The restructuring follows a sharp deterioration in Porsche's (POAHY) business in China, once its most profitable market, where demand has weakened amid rising competition from domestic automakers.
However, Porsche (POAHY) committed to keeping its German sites open through the end of 2035 and will invest €2.1B ($2.39B) in its Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen manufacturing plant and Weissach research and development center. The plan received approval from the company's supervisory board last week.
