Earnings Call Insights: Rambus (RMBS) Q2 2026
CEO Luc Seraphin said Rambus “deliver[ed] a new all-time high in revenue and non-GAAP earnings and beating the high end of our guidance ranges,” adding that Q2 marked “the first time we have exceeded $200 million in revenue.” (CEO, President & Director Luc Seraphin)
On chips, Seraphin said “product revenue reached a new record of $99 million, up 22% year-over-year,” and added, “we expect another quarter of double-digit growth in Q3,” citing “continued leadership in DDR5 RCDs” and “growing traction in new products.” (CEO Seraphin)
On roadmap and product breadth, Seraphin said Rambus “expanded our portfolio with complete chipsets for DDR5 9600 client and server memory modules,” including a “DDR5 9600 RDIMM chipset built around our sixth-generation RCD and PMIC5030,” and said the company remains “on track to intercept the market” for “MRDIMM and LPDDR5X SOCAMM2.” (CEO Seraphin)
On silicon IP, Seraphin said the company had “key design wins across hyperscalers, custom silicon companies and emerging AI semiconductor developers,” including “an exciting design win with a Tier 1 U.S. hyperscaler for next-generation HBM in future AI chips,” and said Rambus expanded “AI IP solutions with PCIe 7.0 Switch IP supporting 128 giga transfer per second.” (CEO Seraphin)
CFO Sumeet Gagneja announced a reporting change: “we will focus our financial results and guidance solely on an ASC 606 revenue basis,” because “the difference between royalties revenue and licensing billing is now minimal.” (Senior VP & CFO Sumeet Gagneja)
Gagneja guided Q3 revenue to “between $210 million and $216 million” and Q3 non-GAAP EPS to “between $0.75 and $0.82.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
By line item, Gagneja guided Q3 product revenue to “between $110 million and $116 million,” royalties revenue to “between $69 million and $75 million,” and contract and other revenue to “between $25 million and $31 million.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Compared with last quarter’s approach to disclosures, Q2 introduced a metric presentation shift as Gagneja said the company will no longer emphasize licensing billings going forward and will “focus our financial results and guidance solely on an ASC 606 revenue basis.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Gagneja reported Q2 revenue of “$207.4 million,” with “product revenue…$99.2 million,” “royalties revenue…$84.2 million,” and “contract and other revenue…$24 million.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Profitability and cost structure in Q2 included “total non-GAAP operating costs…$113.7 million,” “interest and other income…$6.8 million,” “non-GAAP net income…$84.4 million,” and “non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.77.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Cash and balance sheet items included “cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities totaling $825 million,” “operating cash flow of $61 million,” “capital expenditures” of “$12 million,” “free cash flow…$49 million,” and that “inventory increased by $16 million” to support “future product ramps.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Kevin Cassidy, Rosenblatt Securities: “did you have any capacity issues…Any orders you weren't able to meet?” Luc Seraphin: “no, we didn't have any capacity issue in the second quarter…we continue to see tightness in the supply chain…lead times increasing.” (CEO Seraphin)
Kevin Cassidy, Rosenblatt Securities: “is Rambus involved with CXMT either on the IP side or product side?” Luc Seraphin: “Every company that builds memory has to have a license agreement with us, and they're one of them.” (CEO Seraphin)
Sebastien Naji, William Blair: “update us on…MRDIMM…how much of the market will go down the MRDIMM route…?” Luc Seraphin: “we will not overcall the adoption curve…The contribution for Q4 is going to be minimal…a more material contribution is going to happen in 2027.” (CEO Seraphin)
Sebastien Naji, William Blair: “risk of potentially over ordering…Are you seeing any signs of inventory buildup…?” Luc Seraphin: “We don't see any signs of our customers building inventory…however, we are building some inventory on critical products…as we do see our lead times lengthening.” (CEO Seraphin)
Aaron Rakers, Wells Fargo: “views on CXL…Rambus' position for CXL…?” Luc Seraphin: “we are very supportive of CXL…It remains very, very relevant to our silicon IP business,” while adding, “from the product standpoint, we'd rather invest into standard products.” (CEO Seraphin)
Kevin Garrigan, Jefferies: “how much of your revenue was from companion chips or new product revenue…?” Luc Seraphin: “these new products were in a low double-digit percentage of the product revenue…going to be in the mid double digits by the end of Q4.” (CEO Seraphin)
Mehdi Hosseini, Susquehanna: product gross margin trade-off? Luc Seraphin: “Our model remains 60% to 65%,” and Sumeet Gagneja added, “we've been operating in the 60% to 63% gross margin, but our long-term model of 60% to 65% remains intact.” (CEO Seraphin; Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
Analysts’ tone was slightly positive, with questions centered on supply tightness and adoption uncertainty, including “risk of potentially over ordering” and “how much of the market will go down the MRDIMM route.” (Sebastien Naji, William Blair)
Management’s tone was positive in prepared remarks and more measured in Q&A, with Seraphin pairing confidence with caution such as “we are able to serve the market demand,” while also saying, “we will not overcall the adoption curve” and highlighting “tightness in the supply chain.” (CEO Seraphin)
Versus Q1, management messaging shifted from resolving an OSAT disruption to emphasizing record results and a disclosure change, including Gagneja’s “focus…solely on an ASC 606 revenue basis” and Seraphin’s “first time we have exceeded $200 million in revenue.” (Senior VP & CFO Gagneja; CEO Seraphin)
Q2 highlighted leadership transition and finance reporting changes, with Seraphin saying, “welcome Sumeet Gagneja to his first earnings call as Rambus's Chief Financial Officer,” versus Q1 being led by “Interim CFO” John Allen. (CEO Seraphin; Interim CFO John Allen)
Q2 messaging elevated near-term momentum, with Seraphin citing “record product revenue” and expecting “another quarter of double-digit growth in Q3,” compared with Q1 emphasizing stabilization after “the onetime OSAT issue” and monitoring supply constraints. (CEO Seraphin)
Q2 analysts focused on supply availability and specific architecture ramps (MRDIMM, CXL, SOCAMM2), while Q1 questions centered more on OSAT recovery pacing and timing/visibility into second-half seasonality. (Kevin Garrigan, Jefferies; Aaron Rakers, Wells Fargo)
Supply-chain tightness remained the most explicit operational risk, with Seraphin saying, “we continue to see tightness in the supply chain…lead times increasing,” and Gagneja noting inventory build “to support future product ramps and provide customers with greater supply assurance.” (CEO Seraphin; Senior VP & CFO Gagneja)
MRDIMM timing uncertainty was reiterated, with Seraphin saying, “The contribution for Q4 is going to be minimal,” and that a “more material contribution is going to happen in 2027,” tied to platform adoption. (CEO Seraphin)
Rambus management framed Q2 as a record quarter with $207.4 million in revenue and $0.77 in non-GAAP EPS, alongside a Q3 outlook of $210 million-$216 million in revenue and $0.75-$0.82 in non-GAAP EPS. Leadership emphasized DDR5 RCD momentum, expanding chipset breadth (DDR5 9600, MRDIMM, SOCAMM2), and growing silicon IP engagement—including a Tier 1 U.S. hyperscaler win—while repeatedly flagging tight supply conditions and measured expectations around MRDIMM’s ramp timing.
