Carrier Global (CARR) raised its full-year outlook after reporting second-quarter results that topped Wall Street expectations, helped by accelerating demand for cooling systems serving data centers and a sharp increase in commercial orders. Shares climbed 4.6% in premarket trading Tuesday after entering the session up 31% year to date.
The heating, ventilation and air conditioning manufacturer reported second-quarter revenue of $6.35 billion, topping analysts' consensus estimate of $6.03 billion. Adjusted earnings were $0.86 per share, ahead of the $0.82 consensus forecast.
Carrier (CARR), whose brands also include Toshiba Carrier, Automated Logic and Transicold, said total company orders rose about 40% in the quarter, while commercial HVAC orders increased roughly 65%. Orders tied to data centers surged more than 300%, excluding the effects of the Noresco and Riello divestitures.
For investors, the biggest takeaway was the continued strength in data center infrastructure spending. Artificial intelligence is driving a global buildout of data centers that require sophisticated cooling systems to manage heat generated by high-performance chips. Carrier (CARR) said record backlog levels and exceptionally strong orders from that market supported its decision to raise full-year guidance, suggesting the AI infrastructure cycle continues to provide a meaningful tailwind even as other commercial construction markets remain mixed.
Chairman and CEO David Gitlin said, "Orders were very strong globally in the second quarter supported by continued data center demand."
Sales increased 4% from a year earlier to $6.35 billion, while organic sales rose 3%.
Net income fell to $501 million, or $0.60 a share, from $591 million, or $0.68 a share.
Adjusted operating profit declined to $1.10 billion from $1.17 billion, while adjusted operating margin narrowed to 17.2% from 19.1% as higher input costs and unfavorable business mix more than offset productivity gains and volume growth.
Among its operating segments, Climate Solutions Americas posted 4% sales growth, driven by residential and light commercial demand, while Climate Solutions Europe also grew 6%. Climate Solutions Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa benefited from double-digit growth in India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia, though China remained weak. Transportation sales increased 2%, supported by container refrigeration equipment.
Carrier Global (CARR) now expects for full-year 2026:
The updated outlook includes an estimated $0.05 per share headwind from the planned Noresco exit and costs associated with a new U.S. manufacturing facility.
