The prediction markets industry is getting more crowded as more companies make deals to either create standalone exchanges or branded apps through partnerships.In the latest development, Fanatics (FANA) said it will acquire Water Street Labs and CX Clearinghouse from BGC Group, giving Fanatics Markets its own federally regulated exchange and clearinghouse for prediction markets. The deal is meant to let Fanatics (FANA) directly list and clear event contracts while expanding its prediction market offerings for consumers.The companies also plan to partner on prediction markets more broadly. Fanatics said the arrangement will connect retail prediction markets with institutional market infrastructure for the first time, and BGC will contribute market data and analytics to help build new products that combine prediction-market sentiment with traditional financial data.Financial terms were not disclosed. The announcement frames the move as part of Fanatics’ (FANA) effort to strengthen its position in a fast-growing category after already launching Fanatics Markets.
Last week, Underdog launched its own federally licensed prediction market exchange inside the company's app that it said will cover sports, culture, and other event contracts. The launch builds on Underdog’s earlier role as an intermediary for prediction markets through partners such as Crypto.com and Kalshi (KALSHI). The platform is CFTC-licensed and wholly owned and operated by Underdog.Underdog was founded in 2020 by Jeremy Levine, who is still the company’s CEO and co-founder. Levine previously founded StarStreet and DRAFT, both fantasy-sports ventures that were later sold to larger rivals, and Underdog has grown by focusing on product-led sports gaming rather than a traditional sportsbook model. On ownership, the company has raised institutional and sports-industry backing over time, including investors such as Spark Capital, BlackRock, Acies, Mark Cuban, and Kevin Durant. That mix suggests Underdog is still founder-led but backed by venture capital and prominent strategic investors.The biggest names in the prediction markets industry are Kalshi (KALSHI), Polymarket (POLYMARKET), Robinhood Predictions (HOOD), DraftKings Predictions (DKNG), Novig, ProphetX, and OG.com.
