Unilever PLC (UL) rallied on Tuesday after posting strong first-half results, including seeing volume gains in all categories except for food. Underlying sales increased 5.8% during the quarter. The 5.5% volume increase was ahead of the consensus estimate of 5.2%. Pricing edged 0.2% higher during the quarter.Looking ahead, Unilever (UL) expects full-year underlying sales growth within its 4% to 6% multi-year guidance, which was an improved outlook from the last update for underlying sales growth to be at the bottom end of the range. Volume growth of 3% is anticipated for the full year."This was a very good quarter for Unilever, with even the bit that didn't go well (food in Europe) playing into management's decision to offload that business. Marketing/sales fell by 10bps, but that hardly seems a big problem in the circumstances. Asia in particular benefitted from solid growth 1H in India (+8% in 2H), China (mid-single digit), and Indonesia (+7%)," highlighted RBC Capital Markets analyst James Edwardes Jones."There will be a strong debate around whether the company can deliver ~2% volume growth in H2 with pricing 2.5% or higher. It is also worth noting that HUL shares are trading down by 6% and this is 30% of the market cap of HPC," noted Deutsche Bank analyst Tom Sykes, who has a Hold rating on the household products stock.Shares of Unilever (UL) rallied more than 7% in both London trading and premarket action in the U.S.
