Toyota Motor (TM) inked a deal to join a fuel cell joint venture established by Volvo Group and Daimler Truck (DTRUY). The deal brings Toyota together with Daimler Truck (DTRUY) and Volvo Group (VLVLY) as equal owners of cellcentric, with each company expected to hold one third after the transaction closes. The Japanese automaker is expected to participate in a capital increase in Cellcentric to secure its stake.
The agreement is still subject to regulatory approval, and completion is expected around the end of 2026 or the start of 2027. Toyota (TM) is expected to participate in a capital increase in cellcentric to secure its stake.
The companies said the collaboration is intended to boost Cellcentric’s position in the development and manufacture of fuel cell systems for heavy-duty commercial applications. The collaboration is important because fuel-cell systems require scale, durable supply chains, and integration know-how. Shared responsibilities can help reduce duplication and speed industrialization. Cellcentric will remain independent and serve customers beyond the three shareholders rather than acting only as an in-house supplier.
