CMS Energy (CMS) up 1.7% in Tuesday's trading after beating Q2 adjusted earnings estimates by a penny and saying it plans to exit non-utility renewables development following changes at NorthStar Clean Energy, choosing to focus on its regulated business and investments to meet growing electricity demand.
Q2 net income fell to $120M, or $0.37/share, from $201M, or $0.66/share, in the year-earlier quarter, and revenue slipped 0.5% Y/Y to $1.83B, while total quarterly operating expenses rose 2.6% to $1.56B.
CMS Energy (CMS) also announced the completion of a strategic review at NorthStar Clean Energy, saying it will exit non-utility renewables development and retain Michigan-based assets, including Dearborn Industrial Generation, which the company said will simplify the business, reduce financing needs, and allow for a full focus on providing regulated energy services.
For FY 2026, the company reaffirmed guidance for earnings of $3.83-$3.90/share, in line with the $3.87/share FactSet consensus estimate, and long-term adjusted EPS growth of 6%-8%, with continued confidence toward the high end; the company also introduced FY 2027 EPS guidance of $4.08-$4.17.
The company said its current five-year plan includes ~$1.7B dedicated primarily to non-utility renewables.
